Description
The 1965 Ford Mustang K‑Code represents one of the most significant performance milestones of the Mustang’s early years. Introduced as part of the original 1965 lineup, the K‑Code option — known as the “Hi-Po” (High Performance) 289 — delivered 271 horsepower, making it the most powerful small‑block engine available in a first‑generation Mustang.
Unlike the standard 289, the K‑Code featured heavy‑duty internals including a solid‑lifter camshaft, stronger pistons, and a higher‑capacity carburetor, giving the lightweight Mustang a spirited, track‑ready character. K‑Code cars were only available with a four‑speed manual transmission and included upgraded suspension, steering, and exhaust components.
This 1965 K-Code Coupe is said to have received a multi-year refresh completed in 2017. Upgrades included fresh Rangoon Red paint, reupholstered red vinyl seats, white vinyl door trim and rear interior quarter panels, a refurbished red padded dashboard with a white-painted face, white headliner, Hi-Po-spec cylinder heads, a Holley Street Warrior carburetor, and 15” five-spoke Scott Drake wheels. Additional upgrades in 2020 included installation of a T5 five-speed manual transmission, Moser rear end (3.50:1 ratio), Wilwood front disc brakes, Flowmaster mufflers, and Sanderson headers. A Rally Pac-style 8,000-rpm tachometer and clock package was installed in September 2025.
This refreshed and upgraded ’65 K-Code Mustang is now offered with a car cover, two sets of keys, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
