The second-generation 1964 Buick Skylark was completely redesigned on GM’s new intermediate A-body platform, a shift that gave the Skylark a more modern, squared-off look with clean lines and a longer, lower stance. Under the hood, the Skylark offered a range of powertrains, but the standout was the new 300 cubic-inch V8 engine, which provided strong performance for a mid-size car. 

While the Skylark was available in four different versions — two-door Convertible, two-door Coupe (Hardtop), four-door Sedan, and four-door Station Wagon — convertibles like this one added open-air driving appeal, with a power-operated soft top and upscale interior touches like bucket seats and optional center console. It was a stylish and sporty alternative to larger Buicks, appealing to younger buyers. 

The 1964 Skylark Convertible helped pave the way for Buick’s later performance models, including the Gran Sport (GS), which was introduced in 1965. This one can be driven and enjoyed as it is, or it would provide a worthy restoration project to an enthusiast looking to return it to its showroom glory.

Ownership History 

The New Jersey seller of this 1964 Buick Skylark Convertible has owned it since February 2012. The seller says, “This car is in 'driver’ condition, but it is in restorable condition; fenders, doors and quarter panels are straight. The steering box was sent to a rebuilder I found in Hemmings, and I requested a quicker ratio, but I cannot confirm that it definitely was changed. I have the passenger side rocker panel trim, and I’m trying to locate trim hardware to install. It is on the rocker panel in the latest photos but is only temporarily installed.”
