The 1964 Plymouth Savoy Super Stock stands as one of the most fearsome drag racing machines ever to roll out of Detroit. Born from Chrysler’s determination to dominate the NHRA's Super Stock class, A‑864 was Chrysler’s internal program code for the 1964 Race Hemi Super Stock package.

The lightweight ’64 Super Stocks used the new first‑generation 426 Race Hemi. To reduce weight, Plymouth used acid-dipped steel, minimal sound deadening, and stripped interiors. Suspension geometry was tuned to maximize weight transfer under hard launches. Plymouth built approximately 112 A‑864 cars between April and July 1964, and Chrysler corporate lawyer Al Strickland’s “Lawman” was one of the dominant Plymouth Super Stocks that year.

A previous owner transformed this 1964 Plymouth in the style of an A-864 Super Stock lightweight drag car. Power is from a first-generation 472ci Race Hemi V8 engine built by Dale Reed with a “bathtub” aluminum cross‑ram intake, dual 750-cfm carburetors, and early valve covers. The interior has had the rear seat, radio, and heater deleted, and it features lightweight A100 truck bucket seats like a factory Super Stocks. Underneath its 2-Door Sedan body, which has been painted in Ruby Red, the car features a modified suspension with mildly tubbed rear fenderwells as well as a Dana 60 rear end.

This Hemi-powered 1964 Plymouth Savoy is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a clean Ohio title in the current owner's name.

The seller states; “The previous owner, a longtime Mopar enthusiast, set out to build an authentic example of a 1964 Plymouth Savoy A‑864 Hemi car. The goal was period correctness. Aside from the Dale Reed–built 472ci Hemi, the car is faithful to its era—from the paint and interior colors to the exhaust system.”

“During the restoration, the Savoy was stripped and media blasted. A rear mini‑tub and relocated springs were added, the right shock tower modified, and frame stiffeners installed. A Dana 60 rear with 3.55 Posi gears was fitted.”

“Power comes from the Dale Reed Hemi featuring a Crower roller cam and lifters, 10.2:1 aluminum pistons, and an 8‑quart oil pan. The Hemi is paired with an A833 four-speed transmission. Doug Thorley headers feed a 3.5‑inch exhaust with X‑pipe. The front suspension, K‑member, and undercarriage components were powder coated.”

“The car received front disc brakes, rear drums, re‑brightened grille and headlight buckets, and a clean interior with radio and heater delete. Gauges were rebuilt, dash panels re‑chromed, and correct aluminum seat brackets and bucket seats installed. Finished in correct 1964 Ruby Red base/clear paint.”
