Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
In anticipation of the launch of the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray, General Motors partnered with the Barry Toycraft Company to create a unique promotional item: a miniature, battery-powered kids' car. Officially known as the 1963 Barry Toycraft Corvette Junior Car, this pint-sized replica was designed to mirror the sleek lines and split-window design of the full-size Corvette.
Only 1,200 units were produced, making it a rare and highly collectible piece of automotive memorabilia. Each convertible car was finished in Riverside Red gelcoat, the same vibrant color offered on the real 1963 Corvette. The body was made of molded fiberglass, and the car featured a mid-mounted 12-volt electric motor powered by a standard car battery. It could travel forward and in reverse at 3-6 mph.
These junior Corvettes were distributed to Chevrolet dealerships across the U.S. and used as showroom attractions, raffle prizes, or promotional giveaways to generate excitement around the new Corvette model. Some versions were even equipped with working headlights, horns, and AM radios, though these features were often added later by owners or restorers.
Today, the Barry Toycraft Corvette is considered a miniature icon of 1960s Americana, blending automotive history with childhood nostalgia. Restored examples occasionally appear at auctions or in private collections, often fetching several thousand dollars. With its combination of rarity, craftsmanship, and Corvette heritage, it remains a cherished artifact from the golden age of American car culture.
