Description
In 1942 Willys-Overland was building military MB Jeeps as fast as our armed services could accept them. But the small company needed a plan for after the war, and that year they hired famed industrial designer Brooks Stevens to develop a vehicle that shared many MB components and was economical to tool. Announced in 1946 as a “people's car” the two-wheel drive Willys Jeep Station Wagon was the first all-steel, factory-built wagon in North America. The four-wheel drive model became available in 1949. By 1950 it was the most popular station wagon in America, and Consumer Reports that year stated, “The Willys Station Wagon, used as it is intended to be used, has no equal in its field...”
That was still the case in 1962, as the two-wheel drive “Station Wagon” and four-wheel drive “Utility Wagon” models were still being produced in Toledo, Ohio, and sold through Jeep dealers nationwide. It had undergone several updates including a one-piece windshield and tailgate glass, and the option of the “Super Hurricane” flathead inline-six engine. The Utility Wagon was so popular that production of what was arguably America’s first Sport Utility Vehicle would last until 1964, to be replaced by the new Jeep Wagoneer. Highlights

Ownership History
The consignor acquired this 1962 Willys Jeep Utility Wagon 4x4 from California, restored by the previous owner who is said to have “invested heavily in the restoration, service, and improvement of this particular truck. The transmission was upgraded and converted to a Jeep CJ7 5 Speed manual gearbox, which improves the shift quality and cruising ability of the truck. The 4WD transfer case functions as designed, and the tires are nearly brand new and are correct for the truck. The windows, doors and hatch all function as designed. The brakes function very well.”
