Description

Produced during the final years of Chevrolet’s iconic Jet Age styling, the 1962 Impala represented the pinnacle of full-size performance before the arrival of the muscle car era. Combining sleek styling with Chevrolet’s legendary W-series big-block engine program, the Impala SS became one of the most desirable performance cars of its day. Among the most sought-after configurations is the dual-quad 409 paired with a four-speed manual transmission, a combination that remains highly coveted by collectors today.

This 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible is powered by a dual-quad carbureted 409 cubic-inch V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission and Positraction rear axle.

Finished in Anniversary Gold over a Gold vinyl interior, the Impala has reportedly been refurbished under current ownership, including a repaint, a retrimmed interior, engine rebuild, front suspension and steering overhaul, replacement convertible top, and numerous mechanical updates intended to improve drivability and reliability.

This 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible is now offered with an owner's guide, car cover, battery tender, two sets of keys, and a clean Michigan title in the name of the seller's trust.

Ownership History

From the seller: “This is a true dual-quad 409 cubic-inch, four-speed, Positraction Impala SS Convertible. I believe it may be one of Chevrolet’s 1962 50th Anniversary Gold cars. Based on available information, it is estimated that approximately 326 50th Anniversary Impalas were produced across both Sport Coupe and Convertible body styles. According to GM production records, convertibles accounted for roughly 19% of V8 Impala production in 1962, which could suggest that as few as 62 Anniversary Gold convertibles were built.

The trim tag carries paint code 927, which is the correct Anniversary Gold exterior color. However, the interior trim code is stamped 890, while the commonly referenced trim code for Anniversary Gold cars is 891. I found on the website 348-409.com that the 1962 trim code 890 was for the yellow/gold vinyl interior for Impala SS convertibles, where trim code 891 was for the yellow/gold vinyl interior on Impala SS sport coupes. So the trim tag code is correct for this car.

While I cannot definitively document the car as a 50th Anniversary model, its color combination, trim-tag information, and overall configuration strongly suggest that it may be one of these special-production cars.”

The vehicle is now offered with a clean Michigan title held in the seller's revocable trust.
