Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Over its 10-year run, the C1 Corvette went from a stylish six cylinder to a V8-powered screamer. The spark was 1955’s 265 cubic-inch small-block V8, which grew to a 283 in 1957 and a 327 in 1962.
The Corvette’s design was refined every year, with a sexy new body in 1956, dual headlights and frame-mounted bumpers in 1958, and a more streamlined look in 1959. And by 1961, Corvette styling was a tale of two eras: honoring its past with a C1-shaped nose, and boldly looking to the C2’s future with a masterfully shaped rear end wearing new, recessed quad taillights and under-body exhaust tips. That posterior was a masterpiece, with C2 styling elements remaining on Corvettes decades later.
And while 1961 Corvettes were available with five 283 V8s in ever-increasing horsepower levels, some owners swapped in the legendary 327 from 1962-up models. This 1961 Corvette is powered by a 327 cubic-inch V8 believed to be making 250 horses. However, since it’s finished in classic Roman Red with white coves and comes with a soft top and a hard top, you probably won’t mind the non-original engine — or the extra 44 cubic inches.
