Description
The Triumph TR3 was launched in 1955 as a rugged, no-nonsense British sports car, offering lively performance and a raw, open-air driving experience. It was among the first mass-produced British cars to feature front disc brakes, giving it a competitive edge in both road and rally use. Its 1991cc inline-four engine delivered around 100 horsepower, making it a spirited performer for its time.
In 1957, Triumph introduced an updated version unofficially known as the TR3A. While mechanically similar to its predecessor, the TR3A featured several practical upgrades, including a wider front grille, exterior door handles, and a lockable trunk. These refinements made the car more appealing to export markets, particularly the U.S., and helped it become Triumph’s best-selling model of the era.
This 1959 Triumph TR3A is finished in Signal Red over black vinyl and was restored in the 1980s. The engine was fully rebuilt in 2016, including a new clutch. To enhance reliability, it’s been upgraded with rack and pinion steering, an electric radiator fan, and an electronic fuel pump. It runs and drives exceptionally well—a well-sorted example ready to be enjoyed.
