The first full-size Fairlane, named after Henry Ford’s Dearborn estate, debuted in 1955 alongside the launch of the original Thunderbird. These elegant automobiles helped propel Ford to its strongest sales since 1923. Offered in six body styles, each Fairlane was distinguished by a signature chrome “Fairlane stripe” running the length of the car and came equipped with either a 223 cu-in straight-six, a 272 cu-in V8, or the top-tier 292 cu-in “Thunderbird V8.”
By 1957, the lineup expanded with the introduction of the upscale Fairlane 500 trim. This model featured a completely redesigned, low-slung body stretching 17.5 feet, showcasing the sleek proportions of the era.
This 1957 Sunliner, finished in a striking code "C" Dresden Blue exterior is complimented by its code "AB" Colonial/Blue vinyl interior. It's powered by a Thunderbird Special 312ci V8 engine, producing a robust 245 horsepower and fed by a four-barrel carburetor, ensuring spirited performance. Power steering provides easy maneuverability, while power brakes offer confident stopping power. The power convertible top allows for quick and seamless transitions between open-air exhilaration and closed-cabin comfort. For entertainment, a period-correct push-button AM radio is installed. This car represents a superb example of 1950s automotive design, combining style, performance, and period-specific details into a truly desirable package.
