Description
The Corvette began as a dream — literally. Debuting as a “dream car” at General Motors’ 1953 Motorama show, it quickly captured public imagination. Demand turned fantasy into reality, and Chevrolet produced just 300 Corvettes that year, all in Polo White and reserved for VIPs. These early models featured a 235-cubic-inch “Blue Flame” inline-six engine delivering 150 horsepower, paired with a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission.
By January 1954, the Corvette was available to the public at a price of $3,760. New color options — Pennant Blue, Sportsman Red, and Black — joined the original Polo White. A revised camshaft nudged horsepower up to 155. Though the iconic V8 wouldn’t arrive until 1955, the torque-heavy straight-six impressed critics. Road & Track praised its performance, noting it could “give any sports car of comparable power and weight a real race between 20 and 90 mph… Frankly, we liked the Corvette very much.”
This 1954 Chevrolet Corvette wears the standard color of Polo White and vibrant Sportsman Red interior. It’s been in the same family since 1972 and is highly original.

Ownership History
The consignor of this 1954 Corvette states, “This vehicle has been in the family since 1972. Since it was passed along to me in 2024, I’ve had the transmission rebuilt and numerous updates such as new tires, battery, wires, plugs, etc. I drive it, on average, weekly.”
“Some of the instruments are not connected (I’m not sure why my stepdad disconnected them). Gas gauge, oil pressure, radiator temp, windshield wipers, etc. do work. The top has been replaced and is in good condition. The car has also been painted in the past but could use an update (I believe the car was painted back in the 70’s era after my stepfather acquired the car). The interior is great. The serial numbers all match. He did drive it occasionally, but it was mostly stored as he was in the Coast Guard and got transferred around the country, and it has always been garaged.”
