Description

The MG TD arrived in 1950 as a significant update to the TC that had introduced so many American servicemen to British sports cars in the years following World War II. Where the TC retained prewar construction methods and a rigid front axle, the TD brought independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and a wider body on a more refined chassis — improvements that made it a more capable and comfortable car while preserving the upright, fendered character that defined the MG T-series. The TD became the best-selling T-series model of its era, finding particular success in the United States market.

This 1951 MG TD benefits from a five-year refurbishment completed in 2025, reported by the seller as a body-off, bare-frame restoration to original specification. The frame was media blasted and painted semi-gloss black, and the body was stripped and refinished in Woodland Green. The car rides on 15-inch silver-finished steel wheels with polished hub caps and Michelin XZX tires, and it is fitted with a tan convertible soft top.

The 1,250cc XPAG inline-four at the heart of the TD produced 54 horsepower in standard tune, breathing through a pair of SU carburetors and driving the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox. The engine is a replacement unit, rebuilt approximately 3,000 miles ago. A 4.55:1 differential and replacement clutch were also fitted during the build.

This 1951 MG TD is offered with a tool kit and a clean California title in the seller's name.
