Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Charles Griffin’s lifelong love affair with American cars began at sixteen when he restored a dusty blue Studebaker. The passion he had for that car followed him through the rest of his life. Over the years, the scale of his garage and projects grew in step with his love for cars. Ultimately, Charles built his own restoration paradise, complete with a paint room, body shop, show room and features that most gearheads only dream about. His sanctuary became a second home to his family and friends. The selection of fine automobiles offered here represents the passion, drive, and memories that Charles shared. Hagerty Marketplace is honored to present the Griffin Collection, offered entirely without reserve.

“New beauty inside and out — with Fisher Body styling and luxurious De Luxe interiors.” The 1951 Chevrolet Styleline De Luxe Convertible stood at the pinnacle of Chevrolet’s early 1950s design and engineering. As part of the Styleline series introduced in 1949, the ’51 model showcased a rounded, streamlined body that reflected the era’s move toward modern automotive aesthetics.
“It’s the only car in the low-price field with a Valve-in-Head engine!” While competitors like Ford and Plymouth relied on flathead engines, Chevrolet offered a more advanced 216.5 cu-in overhead-valve inline-six producing 92 horsepower, with an optional 235.5 cu-in version available. The Styleline De Luxe Convertible came with either a manual transmission or the increasingly popular Powerglide automatic.
“Chevrolet brings you more for your money in every way!” With a starting price around $2,020, the De Luxe trim added chrome accents, upgraded upholstery, and a power-operated top—luxuries that made it an economical yet stylish choice. Built on a 115-inch wheelbase and weighing approximately 3,365 pounds, the convertible comfortably seated five passengers.
Only 20,172 convertibles were produced in 1951. This particular De Luxe Convertible has been upgraded with a vintage Small Block Chevrolet V8 engine and automatic transmission.
