Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1950 Tatra Tatraplan (T600), designed just after World War II by the renowned engineer Hans Ledwinka, was so named to pay homage to the “planning ethos” of socialist industry after the 1948 nationalization of Czechoslovakia’s automotive sector. The car was positioned as a more affordable alternative to the T97 while remaining in the same class.
Innovative features included a 1952cc air-cooled, four-cylinder boxer engine mounted at the rear. Its aerodynamic teardrop design contributed to its efficiency and performance, as the streamlined shape reduced drag, enhancing both speed and fuel economy. The Tatraplan was not only popular in its home country of Czechia but also found markets abroad. Some units were exported to Canada and Belgium, reflecting its international appeal.
This Tatraplan T600 came to the U.S. from Belgium and maintains its original condition except for fresh red and white paint and some chrome plating. Features include rear-hinged (“suicide”) front doors, a front luggage compartment, flat floor design for extra legroom, and a four-speed manual transmission.
1950 Tatra Tatraplan is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a clean Florida title in the current owner's name.
