In the competitive post-war truck market, Ford’s all-new look emerged as a strong contender against GM’s Advanced Design trucks. More than just a fresh design, it marked the beginning of a legendary nameplate — the F-Series — that continues to define Ford’s truck lineup today.
Debuting in early 1948, Ford’s new pickup range started with the F-1 half-ton. While built on a robust ladder frame wearing an I-beam front axle and leaf spring suspension, Ford invested heavily into improving comfort and usability as well. The wider and taller “Million Dollar Cab” was designed to feel more like a living room than a work truck, and featured a redesigned seat, a high-visibility window, and a host of options to keep occupants comfortable.
By 1950, the F-1 had further evolved with even more interior comfort, a sleek one-piece windshield, and a sturdier grille design that added both style and strength. And buyers could still choose between dependable inline-six or flathead V8 engine options.
This 1950 F-1’s owner started a rebuild project, then handed it off to the pros at SugarCreek. The team logged 1,300 labor hours during a frame-off restoration that wrapped up in 2020, resulting in the incredible truck that you see here.
