Description

The 1950 Ford Fordor Sedan Police Car marked an important moment in American law enforcement history. That year, Ford became the first automaker to offer a dedicated “Police Package,” tailored specifically for the demands of police work. This package included three engine options: a 95-horsepower inline-six, a 100-horsepower V8, or Mercury’s larger V8. These vehicles were engineered for enhanced durability, speed, and safety, with reinforced suspensions, upgraded brakes, and improved cooling systems to withstand the rigors of patrol duty.

The 1950 Ford Fordor Sedan quickly gained popularity among police departments nationwide. Its combination of performance, affordability, and reliability made it an ideal choice for fleet use. The New York Police Department alone placed a record-setting order for 430 units, underscoring the model’s widespread appeal. The Fordor’s roomy interior and four-door configuration made it practical for transporting officers and detainees, while its optional V8 engine provided the power needed for high-speed pursuits.

This 1950 Ford Deluxe Fordor Sedan was featured in the 2013 movie “Gangster Squad” and also in the “Indiana Jones” series movies. It then was displayed at the famed Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. This car also appeared in Season 1; Episode 8 of the reality TV series “The Car Chasers” on CNBC, originally airing on 23 April 2013.
