Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1950 Allard P1 emerged as part of Allard’s postwar line of sporting saloons, produced in London between 1949 and 1952. Often referred to as the 3.6‑litre Saloon, it combined British chassis engineering with dependable American V8 power, typically the Ford flathead, giving the car strong performance and easy serviceability in key export markets. Designed as a practical yet spirited two‑door saloon, it offered seating for five and featured thoughtful touches such as a top‑hinged windscreen, ample interior storage, and comprehensive instrumentation. Period testing recorded a top speed of just over 84 mph and solid acceleration for a large postwar saloon.
Engineered under the guidance of Sydney Allard and Chris Humberstone, the P1 also benefited from lightweight construction using both wood and aluminum, enhancing its agility. Its robust V8 engine and carefully developed suspension contributed to a driving character that blended strength with responsiveness. The P1 secured its place in British automotive history with its landmark victory in the 1952 Monte Carlo Rally, the first such win for a British car, showcasing its reliability and competitive edge. Today, the Allard P1 remains a rare and admired classic, celebrated for its craftsmanship, engineering ingenuity, and motorsport pedigree.
