Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

“It’s Here... the ’49 Ford. The Car of the Year!” Introduced as part of Ford’s first all-new lineup since World War II, the 1949 models featured a sleek, modern “shoebox” design by Richard Caleal, Bob Bourke, and Holden “Bob” Koto, with integrated fenders and a lower, wider stance — departing dramatically from the prewar aesthetic. The Custom series was the top trim level, and the convertible was its most glamorous variant.

Powered by either a 226 cu-in inline-six or the famous 239-cubic-inch flathead V8, the Custom Convertible offered smooth performance and stylish motoring. It featured amenities like a power-operated fabric top, chrome accents, and a well-appointed interior.

Ford’s 1949 models were a commercial success, helping the company regain its competitive edge against Chevrolet and Plymouth. The Custom Convertible, in particular, became an icon of the era — symbolizing prosperity and the growing popularity of personal automobiles. Motor Trend magazine in its very first issue recognized the ’49 Ford’s significance, stating, “Ford’s new car is a revelation in design—sleek, modern, and unmistakably American. The convertible, in particular, captures the spirit of postwar optimism with its graceful lines and open-air freedom.” And this Custom Convertible features tasteful performance upgrades while retaining its original spirit.
