Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Introduced for 1937, the Packard Six was the company's entry-level model, created to bring Packard ownership within reach of a broader group of buyers while preserving the quality, engineering, and prestige for which the marque was known.
For 1939, Packard expanded the Six lineup with the introduction of the Club Coupe (Model 1700), a stylish two-door body style that combined sporty proportions with greater passenger comfort than a traditional business coupe. The car was powered by Packard's 245ci L-head inline six-cylinder engine, paired with a three-speed manual transmission.
Factory features included Packard's distinctive "Goddess of Speed" hood ornament, vertical grille, integrated front fenders, center-hinged "butterfly" hood, split windshield and rear window, and chrome brightwork. The '39 sales brochure also touted an additional shock absorber, mounted near the center of the front suspension, that was designed to reduce front-end pitching and wheel shimmy.
This example has been refinished in two-tone butter yellow and light brown paint with red pinstriping over a light brown interior with broadcloth upholstery. Interior highlights include faux woodgrain on dashboard, a three-spoke steering wheel with horn ring, courtesy lighting, and full instrumentation. The car also has hydraulic drum brakes, independent front suspension, and a fold-down luggage rack in the rear.
The Club Coupe was acquired by its Michigan owner in 2000. The seller states that it was It was stored in Chicago for over 40 years following the death of its first owner in the early 1940s. It was restored to its current colors in the 1990s.
This 1939 Packard Six Club Coupe is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a clean Michigan title in the current owner's name.
