Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The 1939 BSA Scout marked the culmination of the Birmingham Small Arms Company’s long and varied journey into automobile manufacturing. Founded in 1861 as a gunsmith consortium, BSA expanded into motor vehicles in 1907 and its early commitment to innovation was evident in 1912, when BSA—alongside Hupmobile—pioneered the use of all‑steel bodies.

The economic challenges of the Great Depression pushed BSA toward compact, affordable mobility, leading to the introduction of front‑wheel‑drive three‑wheelers in 1929. Building on their success, the four‑wheeled FW32 and the Scout arrived in 1935, the latter evolving through a series of refinements. By 1938, the Scout Series 6 featured a 12‑volt electrical system, Bendix cable brakes, and a conventional 1,204 cc side‑valve four‑cylinder engine driving the front wheels. Autocar magazine called it, “undoubtedly one of the best-looking small cars in existence.”

In 1939, the final Scout models appeared in two‑ and four‑seat tourers, a steel‑bodied saloon, and a very limited run of roadsters. With the onset of World War II, BSA ended car production to focus on military needs, and post-war, motorcycles.

This 1939 BSA Scout Series 6 Roadster is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a clean Florida title in the current owner's name.
