Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
With a whopping 13 different models to suit any buyer, the 1931 Chevrolet Series AE Independents were so popular that they outsold Ford that year. And the stunning 1931 Roadster was the best of the breed — a powerful, refined, and stylish rolling showcase that showed what fledgling Chevrolet was capable of.
Part of the Independence lineup, the ’31 Roadster was built on a stiffened frame featuring a 109-inch wheelbase, a full two inches longer than before. The Roadster and rumble seat-equipped Sport Roadster featured Chevrolet’s composite body construction, which combined a hardwood structural framework reinforced with steel bracing — an approach touted as stronger and more durable than Ford’s all-steel bodies. But it was the sleek, laid-back silhouette, curving fenders, and chrome accents that made the ’31 timeless.
Providing power was the advanced “Stovebolt Six”, an overhead-valve, 194ci inline-six. Built with a strengthened bottom end and equipped with a Carter carburetor, this engine produced 50 horsepower and 122 lb-ft of torque. Known for smoothness and a torque-rich powerband, the Stovebolt reduced the need for frequent shifting of the unsynchronized three-speed manual transmission, creating a more pleasant driving experience.
This 1931 Roadster boasts an older refurbishment, with its body showcasing brilliant yellow paint, a brown belt molding, and an orange pinstripe. A complementary brown interior and tan top balance out orange wire wheels. And its exterior, interior, engine bay, and undercarriage have been refreshed and present well. The car has been with the current owner since 1982.
This 1931 Chevrolet is represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with various manuals and a clean Indiana title in the current owner's name.
