The 1928–1931 Ford Model A — which was longer, stronger, and more comfortable than the Model T it replaced — will be forever known as the quintessential hot rod. More than four million were built in a variety of body styles, but it was the Roadster’s sleek styling that stood out to the speed-crazy soldiers returning from World War II.

When those hot rodders began to modify the Model A for increased performance, its popularity exploded, and highly modified Roadsters were a fixture on the streets and the dry lake beds. And today, these Fords are still highly desirable nearly 100 years after they were built.

This 1930 Ford has the classic Roadster look: its modified Buick “Nailhead” V8 is topped with six carburetors. A Tremec 5-speed passes that power to a coil-over-controlled rear end. The body is finished in black paint with custom pinstriping, while the cream interior features Stewart Warner gauges and an 8-ball shift knob. And according to the dash-mounted Russetta plaque, this car, number 57 owned by Wellington Morton, was clocked at a top speed of 121.60 mph at El Mirage dry lake bed on June 8, 1961.
