Description
After World War II, new cars were in short supply, but money and skills were not. Cheap and lightweight Ford Model As became the go-to vehicle for returning veterans, who could use the money they earned and the new skills they obtained from military service to hop up these cars to performance levels that exceeded that of new cars. The Golden Age of the Hot Rod was about to begin.
This Ford hot rod was built by the seller approximately 13 years ago and has since won numerous awards, including a second in class while displayed at the 59th annual Chicago World of Wheels. It utilizes a Model A steel body that has been cut down and fitted with a shortened pickup bed and a 2” chopped windshield. The body sits atop a boxed and reinforced Model A frame, which has also been fitted with a Borgeson Saginaw steering setup, a Pete & Jake’s drop axle, a Posies spring, So-Cal batwings and shocks, ladder bars, hydraulic drum brakes, and rear coilovers.
Power comes from a 351ci Windsor V8 equipped with an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Quick Fuel 600cfm carburetor, a billet distributor, and ceramic-coated Patriot headers. Additional details include a Ford FMX three-speed automatic transmission, a Griffin radiator, "big and little" Coker Firestone bias-ply tires, Rotten Leonard custom fuel tank, AutoMeter instrumentation, Iron Ace seats, and a Mooneyes steering wheel and pedals.
This custom hot rod is now offered with build documents, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name listing the car as a 1929 Ford.
