Cadillac introduced the Allanté in 1987 as part of General Motors’ ambitious effort to reinvent Cadillac as a global luxury competitor. At the time, Cadillac was under increasing pressure from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Jaguar in the premium two-seat convertible market, and GM sought to answer with a halo car that combined European styling with American technology. To achieve this, Cadillac partnered with famed Italian design house Pininfarina, which built the Allanté’s bodies at its Turin facility. These were then flown 4,600 miles to Detroit aboard specially outfitted Boeing 747s for final assembly, in a production system famously known as the “Allanté air bridge.” The car featured sleek, modern styling, front-wheel drive, and a focus on comfort and advanced features. Over the years, Cadillac refined the platform, culminating in 1993 with the debut of the Northstar 4.6-liter DOHC V8 producing 295 horsepower — the engine that finally gave the Allanté the performance it deserved. With only 4,670 built for its final year, the 1993 model represents the most powerful, polished, and collectible version of this unique transatlantic collaboration.
This specific Allanté is a low-mileage example showing only 17,578 miles. Originally owned by Buzz Ward, an immediate family member of Val Ward, proprietor of Val Ward Cadillac in Fort Myers, Florida, it benefits from notable provenance directly tied to Cadillac history. Finished in dark burgundy metallic over black leather with a matching black convertible top, it retains its factory presentation.
Under the hood is the desirable 4.6-liter Northstar V8 paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Comfort and convenience features include dual 8-way power seats with lumbar adjustment, electronic climate control, a power-operated convertible top, AM/FM stereo with CD player and Symphony Sound, cruise control, power windows, power locks, and dual power mirrors. Factory alloy wheels, Soft-Ray glass, and a Cadillac trunk mat round out the original specification.
This Allanté is accompanied by its original Cadillac folio with manuals, dealer paperwork, and a clean Carfax history report. Final-year Allantés are rare, particularly with such low miles.
