Description

Datsun made its reputation with its Z cars, launched in 1970 with the 2.4-liter 240Z sports coupe and followed by a string of successes, including the 260Z, 280Z, and 280ZX. To commemorate Nissan’s five decades in auto business, the Japanese carmaker unveiled the 1984 Datsun 300ZX Turbo 50th Anniversary Edition, a powerful and limited-quantity sports car that Car and Driver admitted was impressive, and disappointing at the same time. While the magazine touted the special edition 300ZX’s speed, handling, braking, overhead cams, turbocharger, and triple odometers — “All the modern GT goodies are present and accounted for in one neat, $18,699 package”

Only 5,148 of these special edition sports cars were manufactured for the U.S. market, plus an additional 300 for Canada — all with two-tone Light Pewter and Black paint and a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine. The Z-cars’ combination of performance and scarcity continue to make them desirable, especially when they’re low-mileage, well-kept examples like this one.
