1978 Cadillac Sedan deVille

Description

After celebrating their 75th anniversary, in 1977 Cadillac would introduce an updated deVille sedan that was nine inches shorter, four inches narrower, and nearly half-a-ton lighter than the previous year. Despite this smaller footprint, a higher roofline and smarter construction resulted in a larger trunk with more headroom and legroom. This ‘smaller’ Cadillac, with a wheelbase of 121.5 inches and overall length of 221.2 inches, allowed for improved handling characteristics and a more relaxed driving experience when maneuvering through town. Updated electronic level control suspension using special sensors and air-filled rear shocks meant that the reduction in wheelbase would not be felt in ride quality. With a base price of $10,668, 1978 Sedan deVille models were launched with a redesigned grille and hood ornament in addition to the revised vertical tail lamps now integrated with the chrome bumper end caps with built-in side marker lamps. A lifelong dream for many, “Haven’t you promised yourself a Cadillac long enough?” was appropriately chosen to advertise 1978 models and still rings true today
