Model overview

Model description

generation marked a significant evolution of the 911 platform. While it retained the rear-engine dynamics and familiar silhouette of previous 911s, the car grew wider, more aggressive, and pushed performance limits further. Extensive use of aluminum in the body added strength while reducing weight.

The eighth-generation 911 was again available in coupe, convertible, and Targa body styles; across Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4S, GTS, Turbo, and Turbo S variants; with all-wheel or rear-wheel drive; and with a PDK dual-clutch transmission or a 6- or 7-speed manual transmission, trim and model year dependent. The Carrera cars used a more powerful and more efficient version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, initially rated to 370 hp in Carrera guise, and 420 hp in S and GTS trims. Turbo trims appeared for the 2020 model year and were rated at 572 hp and 641 hp for non-S and S models. By the 2024 model year, the 911’s horsepower rose to 379 for Carreras, 443 hp for S cars, 473 hp for the GTS, 572 for the Turbo, and 640 for the Turbo S.

Inside, the 992’s cockpit was redesigned with a larger center touchscreen and digital instrumentation. Tech-focused options included adaptive cruise control, night vision, rear-axle steering, and Wet Mode. Targa models were equipped with active suspension (PASM).

The GT3 and GT3 Touring joined the lineup in 2021. These dual-purpose cars used the same naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder as the 991.2, with a 503-hp rating paired to either a 7-speed PDK transmission of a 6-speed manual. The GT3 RS appeared in 2022 with a massive rear wing and a 518-hp engine.

Further special editions included the Heritage Design Edition (2020), the Edition 50 Years Porsche Design (2022), the 3.7-liter equipped rear-wheel-drive Sport Classic (2023), the safari-style Dakar (2023), and the 4.0-liter-powered S/T (2024).

The 992 received an evolutionary refresh for the 2025 model year, which included a facelift and hybrid-electric versions of the GTS lineup.
