Model overview
Model description
Now reduced to six models, the Falcon’s swansong lasted through December 1969, upon which Ford allowed the Maverick to completely take over the role. The Falcon name lived on starting in January as a new bottom-of-the-line mid-size 1970-1/2 model placed below the series, but Falcon model and name was laid to rest at the end of the 1970 model year.
The standard 1970 Ford Falcon Club Coupe and four-door sedan were basically unchanged. The upscale Falcon Futura lost the stylish Sports Coupe, and the wagon also finished the calendar year relatively unchanged.
The only real news was the 200 six as the new standard engine for all models, now up 5 horsepower to 120. The 302 2-barrel was the only other engine available. Synchro-Smooth 3-speed remained standard for both, with SelectShift Cruise-O-Matic optional.
From September to December 1969, only 15,694 Falcons were built. It was time for a new decade with new values, and the Maverick had that in spades.
