Model overview
Model description
For the 2012 model year, the Chevrolet Corvette’s changes were modest and focused on things like a new seat design and new steering wheel design. For 2012, the navigation and USB port options were made available across a broader range of trims, and the available Bose stereo now included 9 speakers and new subwoofers. This year, buyers could also get optional Bluetooth connectivity and a helpful head-up display.
The Coupe and Convertible were still powered by a 6.2-liter V8 making 430 horsepower, sent through either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. A unique option for the convertible model was the available blue convertible top. This was made available mid-way through the 2011 model year, but now could be had for the entirety of the 2012 MY.
The Z06 is powered by a dry-sump 7.0-liter (427 cid) V8 making 505 horsepower. It has a wider track, aluminum chassis with fixed roof, and a host of sway bars and other efforts to stiffen the chassis. The Z06 also featured a transmission cooler, larger brakes, wider tires, and a host of visual enhancements.
Buyers could also select the Grand Sport, which had the 430-hp powerplant, but many performance enhancements, including the larger fenders and brakes from the Z06. This was for the performance enthusiast that puts cornering above all other concerns.
The king of the Corvette lineup continued to be the ZR1, with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 cranking out 638 horsepower. The ZR1 can do 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a quarter mile in 11.9 seconds.
For the 2012 model year, the most popular variant was the Grand Sport coupe (5056 sold), while the rarest was the ZR1, with just 404 examples sold.
