2008 marked the fourth year of the C6 Chevrolet Corvette. With it came an all-new engine for the Coupe and Convertible, various performance updates, and a selection of new content.
The big news for ‘08 was the replacement of the LS2 with the all-new LS3 as the cornerstone Corvette V8. In base form, it made 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque. Buyers could also select the dual-mode exhaust system, which increased output to 436 hp and 434 lb-ft.
Buyers could also select a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. For 2008, the manual gained improved shift feel, and it took less effort to change gears, which improved manual shift times. The paddle shift also gained quicker shift times and the steering system was tuned for an improved feel. The available Z51 package included an updated 2.73 axle ratio with the six-speed paddle shift automatic.
A host of new features were made standard for 2008, including auto-dimming mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, OnStar, and an iPod/MP3 jack. The latter means you won’t need any retrofitted gear to play the music from your modern mobile device.
Other updates included new wheel designs, and two new available colors; Jetstream Blue Metallic and Crystal Red Metallic. Models were also available with a new Keyless Access remote entry with key fob, a new leather wrapped interior package, and new interior trim accents for all models. The Corvette also gained new sill plates.
In addition to the base Coupe and Convertible, buyers could select from the Z06, Z06 427 Limited Edition, and both coupe and convertible variants of the Indy 500 Pace Car replica.
