Model overview

Model description

1995 marked the last year of the ZR-1 variant of the C4 Chevrolet Corvette. 6,939 ZR-1 Corvettes were produced from this generation. The successor to the ZR-1 was effectively the 2001 Z06 in the C5 Corvette. ‘Vette enthusiasts would not see these letters again until 2009 with the supercharged C6 ZR1.

1995 Corvettes were available with the Official Pace Car package, which came as a convertible with a White and Dark Purple Metallic exterior with White convertible top. ’95 Corvette buyers could also get Dark Purple Metallic as a uniform color option on non-Pace Car models.

Across the ‘95 Corvette range, Chevy made some minor exterior tweaks. There were slightly different “gills” behind front wheels, and a new windshield wiper design that was more stable at high speeds. For convertibles, Velcro strapping and water channels in the A-pillars improved draining and made the convertibles more livable.

There were few, if any, major engine tweaks for 1995, namely a quieter cooling fan system for a more refined ride. The automatic transmission was revised with new mapping to improve shift quality. A new torque converter was both lighter and stronger. The instrument panel also now featured a readout for the transmission fluid temperature.

The previously optional brake upgrade was now made standard. It featured larger brakes, and improved anti-lock and traction control systems. To improve ride quality, Chevy outfitted coupes and convertibles with new low-rate springs and revised shock absorbers. There was also a spare tire delete if you ordered the run-flat tires and tire pressure warning system.

Chevrolet sold just 20,742 Corvettes in 1995, marking one of the slowest sales years in the C4 Corvette’s 13-year production run. Naturally, the valuable model from 1995 would be the final year ZR-1, with only 448 examples built.
