Model overview

Model description

A restyled A-body appeared for the 1968 Skylark, which was still offered with either six or eight cylinders, but the former was now an inline 250-cid engine. The V-8 was a 350 cubic-incher. Both base Skylarks and upscale Custom models were marketed beginning in 1968, and two-door versions now rolled on a 112-inch wheelbase, with four-door versions on a 116-inch stretch. Another restyle followed in 1970. Buick's final Skylark, offered for 1972, featured only V-8 power.

The Gran Sport carried over into 1968, this time segregated into GS-350 and GS-400 lines. The rare Stage 1 package also debuted that year as a dealer-installed option for the GS-400.

No GS-350 was offered in 1970, the year the GS-400 was superseded by the GS-455, powered by Buick's 350-hp 455-cid V-8. A 360-hp Stage 1 455 was optional. Most coveted was the GSX, a special spoilered Gran Sport done in either Saturn Yellow or Apollo White in 1970. A second GSX appeared in 1971.
