Model overview

Model description

After a one-year hiatus in 1999, the Acura Integra Type-R returned for the 2000 model year. While the 1997-98 version was only offered in Championship White, the 2000 Integra Type-R could be had in Flamenco Black Pearl or Phoenix Yellow. For 2000, the lower front air intake was widened with a more trapezoidal shape. The wheels offered were now a dark gunmetal, but continued to be wrapped in Bridgestone summer performance tires. The rest of the Type-R also stands out with lower side skirts, the telltale tall rear spoiler, and “Type-R” badging directly ahead of the rear wheels.

In addition to the exterior tweaks and new color choices, the cabin saw several updates for the 2000 model year as well. Air conditioning, which was previously optional, became standard equipment. The instrument panel was reskinned with simulated carbon fiber, and shifter was updated with an aluminum shift knob.

The beating heart of the Integra Type-R continued to be the B18C5 engine. This 1.8-liter four-cylinder DOHC VTEC power unit was based on the B18C engine in non-R versions of the Integra, but Honda heavily reworked it and Type-R engines were largely hand-assembled. Combustion chambers and intake ports were revised, and a larger throttle body was used. When new, this engine made 195 horsepower at a throaty 8,000 rpm. Power is put to the front wheels through a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission.

Compared to the rest of the Integra lineup, the Type-R received a lower, stiffer suspension, the removal of sound deadening for weight reduction, multiple body reinforcements for a stiffer chassis. The 2000 model year was the most popular for the Acura Integra Type-R in the U.S., but these are still very rare cars by Honda standards with just 1347 examples sold.
