Description
In 1966, General Motors launched the Camaro, starting an iconic rivalry between Chevrolet and the highly successful Ford Mustang. When reporters asked Chevrolet's product managers about the meaning of the name Camaro, the response was a witty, "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs," indicating Ford's newest competition. The first generation of Camaro was in production for only two years, and in 1970, Chevrolet unveiled the second generation, which was a more driver-focused car and evolved into successful IROC racing cars. The second-generation Camaro was available only in the coupe body style, and in August 1971, Road & Track named it one of the Top Ten Best cars in the world. Although the exterior design remained similar, the 1971 Camaro received interior upgrades, including new high-back Strato bucket seats with built-in headrests.
