Introduced in the mid‑1990s, the Lotus Elise redefined lightweight automotive engineering. Norfolk, England-based Lotus put rival sports cars to shame by creating an innovative, epoxy-bonded aluminum chassis that only weighed 150 pounds, yet was exceptionally rigid. Joined with an aerodynamically styled fiberglass body shell adorned with a sculpted front end, straked side panels, and a rear spoiler, the Elise only weighed 1,550 pounds!

Thrust came from a Rover‑sourced 1.8L inline four producing 118 horsepower — modest sounding, but transformative when paired with the low curb weight. And thanks to the double‑wishbone suspension, manual steering and brakes, fiberglass-molded seats with minimal padding, and few creature comforts, the Elise rewarded drivers with direct feedback and scalpel-sharp driving dynamics.

Car and Driver reported, “The Elise’s light weight and small size make it flickable, light on its toes. Credit the car’s low weight for a scorching 0-to-60-mph run of only 5.2 seconds. It circles the skidpad at .87g, and the brakes haul the car down from 70 mph in 162 feet. In short, the Elise is fast, confidence inspiring, and a hoot to drive.”

This left-hand-drive example was imported into Ontario, Canada, in 2025. It has been refinished in Nautilus Blue Metallic, and it wears a red soft top with matching red upholstery. The interior features an integrated roll hoop and an aftermarket head unit.
