Description
The second-generation Ford SVT Lightning proved that a lightning strike is even hotter the second time. Available from 1999–2004, the Lightning was engineered by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team to deliver sports-car performance in a regular-cab, stepside pickup.
The Lightning was powered by a 5.4-liter Triton V8 topped with an intercooled Eaton supercharger. Cramming in 8 pounds of boost resulted in 360 horsepower and a tire-burning 440 lb-ft of torque, with power being routed through a quick-shifting four-speed automatic transmission to a limited-slip rear axle. The truck was lowered, and wore rounded, aerodynamic ground effects for a sinister look. Underneath was a performance suspension, side-exit exhaust, and powerful four-wheel disc brakes lurking behind stylish, model-specific 18” aluminum wheels.
Factor in its premium interior wearing supportive seats and white-faced gauges, and the new Lightning hit performance enthusiasts hard. Said Car and Driver, “It’s on this month’s cover. That has never happened at Car and Driver…Why?...it goes 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, has a top speed of 139 mph, and will happily tow 5,000 pounds.”
Finished in Silver over a Medium Graphite interior, this 2000 SVT Lightning is unmodified according to the selling dealer, and shows less than 82,300 miles. It is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean CARFAX history report, tonneau cover, and a clean Massachusetts title.
