The first-generation Lexus SC 300 was an impressive opening salvo in Toyota’s battle with Europe’s established grand tourers. Built on a rear‑wheel‑drive platform shared with the Toyota Supra and equipped with a naturally aspirated version of the legendary 2JZ, the SC 300 was a luxury sport coupe that paired elegant, wind‑tunnel‑shaped styling with serious engineering credentials.

In contrast to its V8 SC 400 stablemate, the SC 300 was powered by the naturally aspirated 3.0L 2JZ‑GE inline‑six, which produced 225 horsepower and was renowned for its smoothness when new and its long-term durability. While most buyers opted for the optional four-speed automatic transmission, enthusiasts tended to favor the slick five-speed manual gearbox. Underneath, a fully independent double‑wishbone suspension and standard four‑wheel disc brakes made it a tremendously balanced machine. And its cabin was comfortable and ergonomic, if not downright modern even by contemporary standards, offering luxurious options to enhance the driving experience.

The SC 300 was quick, reliable, and refined, with Car and Driver concluding, “The enticing exterior styling remains, as does the sensational interior. The price, of course, is substantially lower than the SC 400’s, but what you get for your money is almost as much.”

This five-speed manual-shifted example is finished in Royal Jade Pearl with Tan upholstery. It was heavily optioned with leather trim, heated memory front seats, a power moonroof, and the premium audio system with a 12-disc CD changer.
