OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“The Buick is by far the meanest-looking. It is also the fastest…its turbocharged V6 engine puts out 20 more horsepower than either the Olds or the Chevy.” Car and Driver’s 1985 G-body comparison test was no comparison: the 1985 Grand National easily outran the V8-powered Monte SS and 442 — and that was a year before Buick gave its turbo V6 an intercooler and 35 extra horsepower.
Clearly, the 1985 “hot air” Regal was no slouch. Whether in GN or T-Type form, its 3.8L V6 wore an AiResearch T3 turbocharger, high-tech sequential fuel injection, and a distributor-less ignition. At 15 pounds of boost it made an impressive 200 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. That engine lived in a stylish midsize body with a strong perimeter frame, a responsive coil-spring suspension, and a roomy, comfortable interior. All things considered, it was a lovely place to win a drag race.
Only 2,100 1985 Buick Regal T-Types were produced — but this particular T-Type was ordered with the rare two-tone WH1 Designer’s Package, making it one of only 525 built that year. A previous owner replaced the turbocharger and painted it all black for that sinister GN look. This rare Buick is now offered by the selling dealer in Georgia with a clean CARFAX history report and a clean Illinois title.
