OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1983 Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet marked a significant milestone in Ferrari’s history as the company’s first production convertible with a mid-engine layout. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, the Mondial Cabriolet was based on the Mondial 8 coupe but featured a fully retractable soft top, offering open-air driving without compromising the car’s 2+2 seating configuration. Designed by Pininfarina, the Mondial Cabriolet combined elegant lines with practicality, a rarity among Ferraris of the era. It was powered by a 2.9-liter V8 engine producing around 214 horsepower, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The engine was mounted transversely behind the rear seats, contributing to balanced handling and greater interior space. Though not the fastest Ferrari at the time, the Mondial Cabriolet was praised for its comfort, spaciousness, and usability — qualities that made it more approachable for everyday driving. It also featured improved electronics and safety features compared to earlier models. Production of the was limited — just 629 cabriolets produced between 1983 and ’85 — yet the Mondial Cabriolet has since gained appreciation for its unique place in Ferrari’s evolution, bridging the gap between performance and practicality in a stylish, open-top package. Road & Track magazine said it well: “It’s more about grand touring than raw performance.”
