Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The Lola T540 Formula Ford 1600, introduced in 1978, was a significant evolution in the Formula Ford series. Designed as a successor to the T440, the T540 featured several notable improvements, including a front-mounted radiator and revised front suspension with outboard components. This design change enhanced the car’s cooling efficiency and handling characteristics.

The T540 quickly gained popularity, especially in the United States, where 82 units were sold. Additionally, 23 units were built to European specifications (T540E), with several finding homes in the UK, Germany, Holland, and Switzerland. The car's competitive edge was evident as it secured numerous championship wins, including the BRDC Esso Formula Ford 1600 Championship in 1978 with Peter Morgan.

Throughout its production years from 1978 to 1981, the T540 continued to dominate various racing events. Notable drivers like Julian Bailey and Mark Peters showcased their talents in this model, achieving significant victories and titles. The T540's legacy extended beyond its initial years, with continued success in the Mid-Am Championship Formula Ford series well into the 1980s and beyond.

The Lola T540 remains a celebrated model in the history of Formula Ford racing, known for its innovative design and competitive performance. This is a project vehicle and should be purchased as such.
