Description
Introduced in 1968, the XJ6 was the flagship model of Jaguar’s new XJ series, designed under the direction of Sir William Lyons. By 1973, the XJ6 had matured into a highly regarded Series 1 saloon, powered by a smooth 4.2-liter inline-six engine derived from Jaguar’s legendary XK series.
The car featured independent rear suspension, disc brakes on all four wheels, and a sophisticated ride quality that rivaled much more expensive European sedans. Its elegant styling, with a long bonnet, low stance, and brightwork accents, made it instantly recognizable. Inside, the XJ6 offered wood veneer trim, leather upholstery, and a quiet, comfortable cabin—hallmarks of British luxury.
The 1973 model marked the final full production year of the Series 1 before Jaguar transitioned to the Series 2, which in 1974 introduced design changes to meet evolving safety and emissions standards, especially in the U.S. market. Today, the 1973 XJ6 is celebrated by enthusiasts for its classic styling, smooth performance, and its role in establishing Jaguar as a serious contender in the luxury sedan market.
Beneath the bespoke British tailoring of this unassuming 1973 Jaguar XJ6 Sedan — finished in Greensand over Cinnamon leather — beats the heart of an American powerhouse. While it retains the classic blend of athleticism and luxury that defines the XJ6, under its long reverse-hinged bonnet lies a Chevrolet small block 350 V8 mated to a Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission. The seller notes the swap was intended to simplify servicing and reduce running costs. Otherwise, this dapper Jag remains largely original, with correct trim and components throughout. It’s a gentleman’s Savile Row cut suit concealing a Detroit brawler beneath the lapels!

Ownership History
The Indiana seller of this 1973 Jaguar XJ6 has owned it since March 2017. The seller notes, “The car spent its life in the Phoenix area until I purchased it — as far as I know, it's always been garage kept and only used in good weather. The original owner replaced the inline-six with a Chevy small-block 350 V8 and 350 Turbo transmission, and it runs great — no oil leaks and never need to add oil between changes. However, the transmission has started to leak but works perfectly.”
The yellow headlamp lens covers have been removed from the low beams, the original brake master reservoir is included but has been replaced on the vehicle (photos of reservoir in gallery are outdated), and the overriders have been removed but are included.
