Description
The Chevrolet Chevelle debuted in 1964 with an attractive, angular design, but the second-generation model took Chevy’s muscle car styling to the next level. 1968–up Chevelles had an absolutely sinister look, blending sensual curves with a semi-fastback roofline that drew inspiration from the recently redesigned Camaro.
By 1971, the Chevelle’s design evolved further with distinctive sheet metal, an upgraded interior offering more modern conveniences, and SS models featuring unique styling, a domed hood, and a sport suspension. But while the SS 454 big block was the king of the hill then, the best way to enjoy a classic Chevelle now is with modern upgrades.
This restomod wears professionally applied dark gray paint on its mini-tubbed body, with massive five-spoke wheels, body-color bumpers, and a cowl-induction hood completing the monochromatic look. Inside, a Mitch's Kustoms custom interior features seats with black vinyl and red synthetic suede inserts, and the cabin features air conditioning, an aftermarket steering wheel, and a custom console with a touchscreen head unit nicely complements the aftermarket gauges.
Underneath, this modified Chevelle Malibu features a modified, reinforced chassis wearing a coil over performance suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and rack and pinion steering. Its chin spoiler transitions into a screened belly pan that feeds air into fluid coolers. And the crowning touch is a supercharged 6.2L LS3 V8 that lives in a custom engine bay, and sends power through a six-speed manual trans to a 9-inch rear end.
This LS-powered Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is the culmination of a multi-year build, with a reported $322,000 spent.
This 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu restomod is now represented by a Broad Arrow Specialist with two key fobs, build receipts, and a transferable New York registration in the current owner's name listing it as a 1970 Chevrolet.
