Description
When the public first saw the all-new Mustang at the New York World’s Fair in April 1964, it set off a firestorm of interest that culminated in 120,000 ’65 Mustangs being sold by that August. And with two-door Hardtop, Convertible, and (beginning in September) Fastback 2+2 body styles, numerous options, and powerplants ranging from a base 120-horsepower straight six up to a 289ci HiPo V8, there was a Mustang for every purpose and every price range.
The 1966 model marked the second full year of production, and wore a new grille featuring a floating Mustang emblem, redesigned side scoops, new wheel covers, and an updated interior featuring a five-gauge instrument cluster. Six- and eight-cylinder engine options remained, backed by manual or automatic transmissions along with a wide range of rear differential ratios. The Mustang had hit its stride, with the ’66 model highly sought after then, and highly desirable now.
This Mustang Convertible is finished in the striking combination of red over a white vinyl Pony interior with a matching white convertible top. It's fitted with 14" styled steel wheels wearing thin whitewall tires, a passenger-side mirror, a modern audio system, and an under-dash air conditioning unit. Underhood, the 289ci V8 breathes through an aftermarket dual exhaust system, and a three-speed automatic transmission delivers power to the rear wheels.
Just 12,520 Mustang Convertibles are said to have been built for 1966 with the Pony/Luxury interior, including this example.
This 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible is is now represented by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a clean Georgia title in the current owner's name
