Description
The 1965 Pontiac LeMans GTO marked the second year of Pontiac’s groundbreaking muscle car concept. Originally introduced in 1964 as a performance option package on the LeMans, the GTO continued that role in '65. The GTO package included a 389ci V8 engine, heavy-duty suspension, and distinctive badging, with the optional Tri-Power setup — three two-barrel carburetors — available for maximum performance.
The rarest of ’65 LeMans GTOs are those wearing factory Tiger Gold paint, a special promotional color associated with Hurst Performance and Pontiac's "Tiger" marketing theme. Although exact production breakdowns were not officially documented, sources indicate only about 100 were produced with the Tiger Gold/Muncie four-speed combination — including this one.
During a restoration in 2024-25, this GTO received a rebuilt Pontiac 421ci Tri-Power engine, which chief architect John DeLorean originally intended for the GTO but was denied by GM executives. The car, which has been refinished in its factory correct Tiger Gold paint, has been driven only ~500 miles since the rebuild, and the original 389 four-barrel V8 is accompanies the sale.
This Tiger Gold GTO Hardtop is now offered with the aforementioned 389ci V8 engine, its build sheet, Pontiac Historic Services factory documentation and records, and a clean Connecticut title in the seller’s name.

Ownership History
The Connecticut seller of this 1965 Pontiac LeMans GTO Hardtop purchased it in New Jersey in 2022. The California-built car was sold new from Allison Pontiac in San Jose.
The seller, who believes the seat upholstery is original, says that in addition to the engine swap, “the top, bottom, and frame were sandblasted, and the car has new lower 1/4 panel pieces, fresh paint, and a new vinyl top. Unusable trim was replaced, otherwise I tried to use all original parts — not perfect, but the fit is exceptional. I did the restoration myself, except I have a body and paint guy that I use for all my restorations (it’s one of my businesses).”
Included Items
Factory 389ci, four-barrel V8 engine on a dolly
Spare tire and jack
Factory tinted windshield
