Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1949 Mercury Series 9CM marked a pivotal moment in postwar American automotive design and culture. Introduced on April 29, 1948, it was Mercury’s first all-new model after World War II, breaking away from prewar styling with a sleek, modern look. Designed by E.T. “Bob” Gregorie’s team, the 9CM shared its basic body with Ford but featured upscale touches like twin taillights, chrome trim, and a more luxurious interior.
Built on a 118-inch wheelbase, the 9CM was powered by a 256 cubic-inch flathead V8 producing 110 horsepower, paired with a three-speed manual transmission. It came in several body styles, including coupe, convertible, sport sedan, and station wagon, with prices ranging from $1,980 to $2,715.
The 9CM was a commercial success, with over 300,000 units sold in 1949 alone. Its popularity was boosted by its stylish design and solid performance, making it a favorite among customizers and hot rodders.
In addition to its sleek “pontoon” fenders, integrated body lines, and low-slung proportions, this 1949 Mercury Convertible features fresh black paint, tan cloth convertible top, chrome and stainless trim, reupholstered two-tone red and cream interior, restored gauges, and a smooth-running flathead V8.
