Description
The 1947 Packard Custom Super Clipper emerged as the pinnacle of luxury in Packard’s postwar “21st Series,” positioned atop a four-tiered lineup that included the Clipper Six, Deluxe Eight, Super Clipper Eight, and its flagship—the Custom Super Clipper Eight. Designed in 1941 by Dutch Darrin with flowing, integrated “fade-away” fenders, its modern styling carried into the 1946–47 postwar revival. Under its hood, the Custom Super Clipper featured Packard’s largest engine: a 356ci straight-eight with a nine-main-bearing crankshaft, hydraulic valve lifters, and a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive—capable of comfortably cruising over 100 mph.
Lavish inside and out, this 1947 Super Clipper is finished in a Vanderbilt Gray Metallic exterior set off with a recently reupholstered rich blue fabric interior with creme-colored piping. The Elm Burled wood accent trim with Elm Straight woodgraining on the door caps is beautifully placed throughout the cabin, a custom period-correct steering wheel was commissioned, and the factory Philco push-button radio remains in place. The current owner obtained this Super Clipper in 2016, and extensive maintenance and restoration receipts are included with the vehicle.
This 1947 Packard Custom Super Clipper is now offered by the seller on consignment with prior restoration and general service records, two Packard-labeled folding chairs with umbrellas, and a clean Arizona title in the current owner’s name.
