Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1942 Lincoln Continental Coupe is more than a car—it’s a symbol of elegance standing at the edge of a world in turmoil. Conceived by Edsel Ford and styled by Bob Gregorie, the Continental began as Edsel’s personal custom car, blending European sophistication with American luxury. Its success led to limited production, establishing the Continental as a design icon.
For 1942, Lincoln refined the formula with a bold yet graceful profile. The extended hood, abbreviated rear deck, and signature rear-mounted spare tire — later known as the “Continental kit” — defined its distinctive look. Flowing fenders and a wide, assertive grille conveyed presence, while the coupe’s smooth roofline added refinement. Inside, craftsmanship prevailed with leather seating, polished wood trim, and understated elegance.
Under the hood, a 305-cubic-inch V12 delivered 130 horsepower and 220 lb-ft. of torque, paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Performance was smooth and effortless, befitting its luxury status. Production ended abruptly as World War II halted civilian car manufacturing. Only about 200 coupes were built, making the 1942 Continental one of Lincoln’s rarest creations.
Delivered to Oklahoma City on December 15, 1941 — just one week after the United States entered the war — this example marks a poignant moment in automotive history.
This Continental is now offered at no reserve in Georgia with handwritten and typed notes from a previous longtime owner.
