Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1935 Pierce-Arrow Custom Twelve Model 1255 Seven-Passenger Sedan exemplifies the height of American automotive luxury and engineering during the Great Depression. Manufactured in Buffalo, New York, by the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company, the Model 1255 was powered by a 462 cubic inch V12 engine designed by Karl Wise, producing 175 horsepower. This smooth, silent powerplant rivaled the finest European engines of its time and was so robust it later saw use in Seagrave fire engines for decades.
Built on a 147-inch wheelbase, the Model 1255 Seven-Passenger Sedan offered generous interior space, ideal for affluent families or executive transport. The cabin featured fine upholstery, rich wood accents, and a high level of craftsmanship. Buyers could select from 17 exterior colors and 10 interior trim options, allowing for personalized elegance. Signature Pierce-Arrow design elements—such as the archer hood ornament and integrated headlamps—reinforced the marque’s identity.
Despite its refinement, the Model 1255 was produced during a time of economic hardship, with only 875 Pierce-Arrows built in 1935 across all Eight and Twelve models. The company proudly declared itself “America’s finest motor car,” surviving where many competitors failed. Restoration of this particular 1935 Model 1255 was initiated by a 50-year Pierce-Arrow Society member and historian and is deserving of completion to its original grandeur.
