Description
The 2009 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR—short for “King of the Road”—was a limited-production fifth-generation Mustang that paid homage to the legendary 1968 GT500KR. Originally launched in 2008 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Shelby Mustang, the KR edition was so well received that Ford extended production into 2009, adding 712 units to the original 1,000.
Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas upgraded the car with a carbon-fiber hood, splitter, and mirror caps, functional brake cooling ducts, and twist-lock hood pins reminiscent of the original KR. SVT-tuned suspension components and exclusive Goodyear Eagle F1 tires ensured superior handling. Inside, the GT500KR featured Carroll Shelby’s signature, embroidered seats, and serialized dash plaques.
This GT500KR is #516 of 712 units produced for the model year and returned to Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2019 to receive a Whipple supercharger and cooling package upgrade, along with an auxiliary gauge pod. The 5.7-liter V8 is said to now produce 725 horsepower and sends power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The body is finished in Torch Red with silver stripes, and the 18” Alcoa wheels cover disc brakes with Brembo front calipers. This GT500KR has 3,500 miles and is now offered with a clean CARFAX history report.
