Henrik Bjørnstad

Director

Henrik Bjørnstad is an international insurance executive with broad experience in growth, transformation, and expansion. Henrik most recently served as Managing Director of National Markets, a division of Markel International, where he held P&L responsibility across the UK, Canada, and the EU from 2020 to 2025.

Prior to that role, Henrik served as Global Head of Strategy at Markel, establishing Strategy as a global function between 2017 and 2020. Additionally, Henrik set up and eventually led the strategy team of Markel International from 2015 to 2017. Earlier in his career, he was a strategy consultant at McKinsey & Company from 2008 to 2015, filling the position as Engagement Manager during his past three years with the company. He worked as a legal attorney with Wiersholm, a Norwegian law firm, in 2007 before pursuing his second law degree at the University of Oxford.

Henrik was a member of the Executive Committee of Markel International from 2019 through 2025 and his UK team won three Insurance Times Commercial Lines Insurer of the Year awards.

In addition, Henrik served as Chair of the Board of Directors of Markel Protection Limited and as a Director on the boards of several UK and Canadian Markel regulated entities from 2020 to 2025. Since 2025, Henrik has served as a Director of Gamasama AS, a jewelry and property holding company.

Henrik holds an LL.M. from the University of Oxford and an LL.M. from the University of Oslo.
