Condition
#1 Concours
World-class. Could compete in the world’s best Concours d'Elegance events.
Sharp, clean, fresh in show car condition with no competition history. Bought from Porsche and retained for many years on display by the Australian Porsche importer, Alan Hamilton. Restored in its present livery by Porsche in the early 90's. Engine case from Vasek Polak's spares. Later owned by Matt Drendel. Jerry Seinfeld collection.
Market commentary
How great the gulf between appearance and reality? This is a real 917/30. Real in the sense that was the way Porsche built it, but not real in the sense that it was never driven in competition when new, nor handled by legends of motorsport (other than some demonstration laps with Roger Penske at the wheel.) Sold for barely half Gooding's pre-sale estimate, that is the consequence of no history but it has immense potential, if you're Mark Donohue and able to manage its immense power.
